Trying to make levels look better

Oh boy here we are...

The first devlog about my (mostly) black and white  game.

This is going to be short because the game hasn't even got to alpha.

Anyways... Let's talk about the game's environment.

In the past month, I have been sending pre-pre-alpha builds and screenshots to my friends to get some feedback. So what do you think they did? If you guessed they gave me feedback, then you're right.

The thing they complained about was the environment. Mainly that the textures are too plain.

So I drew some textures to put in the background and also replace the ground's plain black texture with some tiles or bricks.

So I drew some  B R I C K S. But these aren't just any type of brick... These are Blinding-Bricks™!

The name comes from the fact that when you look at them when moving, you go blind. Specially when you have Astigmatism like me and one of my friends who tested the pre-alpha versions.

They look nice when you're standing still though.

The main reason to why they are like this is that they are small and there is a big difference in their colors(black and white).

At the end I said "screw it" and made some bathroom tiles. They were not intended to look like bathroom tiles but they look good enough so I kept them, AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE SCREENSHOT. They do remind me of Portal though.

You may notice that the second screenshot is darker. This is because I also added the option to change the brightness through the developer console, and I turned down the brightness. Of course, this will be added to the options menu.

The look is not finalized, so it might change in the future. I might add some life to the levels because I don't want all of characters to be robots. Something like snakes.. maybe... because... snakes? roaming around in the levels? Your suggestions and ideas would be appreciated.

So, that's all folks! The itch.io poster and the main menu look really bad. So that's what I am aiming to fix next . I'm currently drawing a poster to put on the game's page and also on the main menu.

See you in the next devlog, maybe...
